GAME NOTES

After the most dreadful road trip in recent memory, the Red Sox begin the home slate with an afternoon tilt against the Yankees.  The Yankees have started the season off well taking 2 of 3 from both the Tigers and Twins. The Sox made their first roster moves of the season today, placing Matt Albers on the DL and recalling RHP Alfredo Aceves from Pawtucket.  They also designated Dennys Reyes for assignment and activated Felix Doubrount from the DL.  In recent years, the Sox have been a better home team that road team.  Last year their home/road winning percentages were fairly even (.568/.531) but the difference in 2009 and 2008 (.691/.481) is substantial.  Maybe all this team needs is Boston and a 10 game homestand.

PLAYER OF THE DAY

You don’t need me to tell you that the Red Sox and Yankees have a lot of history.  For this weekend’s players, I am looking back to 1932 trade between the two teams, this is about as obscure and random as it gets.  In the trade the Yankees received Danny MacFayden.  MacFayden made his debut with the Red Sox in 1926 and remained in Boston until the trade in 1932.  He remained with the Yankees until 1934 before moving onto the Reds, Braves, Pirates and Senators.  When he career finished he spent 17 seasons in the majors, compiling a 132-159 record and a 3.96 ERA.
