GAME NOTES
There is no doubt in my mind that for the majority of the 2011 season, the Boston Red Sox will a very good team playing very good baseball. The question now that we are all wondering is if they have dug too deep a hole to climb out. Can they make up the ground lost by this horrific 2-10 start? Currently, the Red Sox are five games back of the first-place Yankees with 150 to play. Very doable, I think, just have to grab a shovel soon, very soon.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
The triple is one of the most exciting plays in baseball. Center fielder Tony Armas had 16 triples in his Red Sxo career. Armas came to the Red Sox after spending one year in Pittsburgh and six in Oakland. He had his best season in 1984, hitting .269 and leading the league with with 123 RBIs and 43 HRs. After the acquisition of Dave Henderson in 1986, Armas’s playing time diminished and he only had one at-bat in the 1986 World Series. He was released following the season and ended his career after playing three seasons with the Angels. His son, Tony Armas Jr. was a Red Sox prospect in 1997 when he was traded with Carl Pavano to Montreal for Pedro Martinez.
