GAME NOTES

It wasn’t fourteen runs, but it did the job. Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford each blasted home runs to lead the offensive march to six runs last night. Tim Wakefield twirled a gem as the Sox picked up their fourth straight win and isolated themselves in first place. Clay Buchholz takes the mound for the last time in a month that has seen him surge back to the dominance he displayed last season. He went seven and one third innings last Monday in Cleveland, giving up two runs while striking out four. He carries a 4-3 mark and 3.3o ERA into the night. The Tigers counter with lefty Andrew Oliver, who was just called up to the major league roster to replace the ailing Phil Coke in the rotation. The top prospect has not been in the majors this season, but manager Jim Leyland hopes he can simmer Boston’s blistering bats. Oliver pitched his way to a 4-3 record and a 3.31 ERA in triple A Toledo. Mike Cameron gets the nod in right against the lefty, as J.D. Drew still nurses his hamstring. Carl Crawford slides down one spot and bats seventh, giving Jed Lowrie more at bats against the lefty as he bats sixth.
