The latest All-Star tallies are in!  Not surprisingly the Yankees hold down five of the coveted slots, while two members of your very own Boston Red Sox are holding down two of the four remaining spots.  Though I’ll be the first to admit the All-Star voting process is nothing more than a popularity contest, it never ceases to amaze me the degree to which Yankee fans outvote their Red Sox counterparts.  I’m not saying that Red Sox fans aren’t as passionate.  I think we all know that’s not the case.  I’m just saying that while Red Sox Nation isn’t as big as the Yankee Universe, there’s still a lot of us out there.  One would think that if we were appropriately motivated, we could band together and vote a few more of our players into to the starting lineup.  Then again, I’m just thinking out loud.

According to Joey Nowak of MLB.com, the latest totals show Adrian Gonzalez pulling into first place at first base with a 225K vote lead over Yankee first baseman, Mark Teixeira, for the right to start the mid-summer classic in Arizona next month.  The Red Sox’s other potential starter, David Ortiz, holds a 500K vote lead over the Rangers’ Michael Young.  The only other Red Sox player within shouting distance of making the team as a starter is Jacoby Ellsbury who sits in fourth place in OF voting, nearly 350K votes behind the third place holder, Josh Hamilton.

For your viewing pleasure, here are your leaders in All-Star voting through Tuesday, June 14th.
