GAME NOTES
The Red Sox are rolling into the break, having won 9 of the last 10. Exactly how you want to end the first half of the season. Also, you would have to think the recent success takes pressure off of Kyle Weiland who will be making his major-league debut. Weiland is not here to be a savior, he is just here to help the team for a short stint (hopefully) while Jon Lester is on the DL. In my opinion, exactly the circumstances you want for someone to make their major league debut. I saw Weiland pitch at Pawtucket on June 29th and I was very impressed. He went 8 innings giving up only one run on one hit with 12 strikeouts and no walks. Sounds good, huh?

PLAYER OF THE DAY
Today is the 57th birthday of Hall-of-Famer Andre Dawson. He is most known for his time with the Expos and Cubs, but spent the 1993 and 1994 seasons with the Red Sox. Dawson began his career in 1976 with the Expos and remained in Montreal until 1986 before moving to the Cubs (1986-1993). He closed out his career with the Marlins in 1995. Dawson hit his 400th career home run at Fenway Park on April 15, 1993. He appeared in 196 games in Boston and was a .260/.297/.441 as a Red Sox compared to .279/.323/.482 for his career.
