GAME NOTES

Darnell McDonald pitched the ninth inning. That’s about all you need to know about last nights game against the Oakland Athletics. The Sox embarrassed themselves, giving up 15 runs to Oakland’s offense. Jon Lester looks to put a halt to this offensive outburst, as he takes the mound on Saturday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader. Lester has been on a rol lately, and his last start was no exception. He pitched six innings against Kansas City, giving up one run while striking out three. He picked up the win, bringing his record to 13-6, and his ERA to 3.16. Gullmero Moscoso gets the call from Oakland. He earned the tough luck loss in his last start, a eight inning effort against the Blue Jays. He gave up only one run, but the A’s lost that game 1-0. He struck out seven, and surrendered only three hits. Due to the doubleheader, Jason Varitek gets the rare start catching Lester, who usually throws to Jarrod Saltalamacchia behind the plate. Mike Aviles starts at third after starting in left field yesterday.
