As we get ready to turn the calendars over to September, the Red Sox and Yankees get set to square off for their second to last series of the season together. The Sox are 10-2 versus the Bronx Bombers this season and currently hold a 1.5 game lead over them in the standings. Needless to say, the battle for first or second is far from over, but does it really matter?

Both the Sox and Yanks are almost certainly playoff bound and getting to the postseason is what counts, division winner or wild card. Of course, winning the division is always the first goal for any team. Flags fly forever and the playoffs can be a bit of a crapshoot due to everything being on the line in a short series. That being said, since both teams are locked in for October baseball, has the Sox vs Yanks rivalry lost some steam this season?

In last week’s poll we asked if you were worried about the team’s pitching going forward. The results were as follows…

How’s that back feeling, Clay? 34% – I don’t think there is any doubt that this team is much better with a healthy Clay Buchholz in the rotation, especially in October. Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Bedard would be the ideal four to trot out when everything is on the line.

A little worried 26% – Between this option and the one above, clearly Red Sox Nation is not 100% comfortable with the current state of the staff.

Worried, but we’ll be fine in the playoffs 16% – When you can trot out Lester and Beckett and have a back-end duo of Bard and Papelbon, things ain’t so bad.
