Ok. No predictions today. Wednesday morning’s predictions hit a little too close to home.
I don’t know about you, but I’m really sick of seeing Andrew Miller go out to the mound. With Bedard and Beckett on the mend in the short-term, the Red Sox don’t really have a choice. Still, it’s pure torture watching him jog out there to start the game. At risk of sounding too negative, it’s almost as like chalking up another mark in the loss column on those days. I realize that’s a completely irrational thought, but that’s kinda how I feel. Anyway, onto the links.
- Mark Smith wrote a tremendous piece in response to the sabermetric community’s reaction to Hippeaux’s piece on WAR. It’s a must read. He makes a ton of interesting observations.
- How do you define value? As I mentioned in a piece for ESPN last week, value is in the eye of the beholder. Still, it didn’t stop Steve Slowinski of Fangraphs from putting together a fantastic piece on the subject.
- Pitcher wins has been a hot topic lately. Joe Posnanski takes a deeper look at the concept of W-L record and what it means.
- Josh Weinstock at Hardball Times takes a look at Mark Teixeira’s shrinking BABIP.
- Jason Wojciechowski of the Platoon Advantage wants new end-of-the-season awards. I can’t say I disagree.
That’s all for today. I’ll be back on Sunday with another batch of links.
