There hasn’t been a lot of good news surrounding the Sox lately. I’m sure it seems like the all hope is lost, but the fact of the matter is this team has had some really great performances from a number of players this season. This week’s poll question asks you who has been the most pleasant surprise of 2011?

Last week’s poll asked what has been this season’s biggest disappointment. The results were as follows…

Carl Crawford’s performance 44% – Can’t say that I blame you on this one. While Crawford has played a bit better in the second half, his overall line of .251/.286/.399 with 11 home runs and 17 stolen bases is barely above replacement level.

John Lackey’s performance 29% – Yes. That is all.

Clay Buchholz’s injury 18% – Clay’s back injury was a concern certainly when it originally occurred, but now, with the additional injuries to the starting staff, it looms larger than ever.

Daisuke Matsuzaka’s injury 4% – Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like he was a part of this team this season.

J.D. Drew’s performance 3% – I guess we all sort of saw this coming given his age and regression last season.

Bobby Jenks’s injury 2% – The Sox got 15.2 innings and a 6.32 ERA for the $6M they dished out for his services this season.
