We’ve learned early on that Booby V will say a lot of things. He’ll say what he thinks about the Yankees, he’ll say what he thinks about last September’s collapse, but he may not speak about the Sox’ starting shortstop job until late in the spring. I’ve argued that it’s stupid to base starting lineup decisions on spring performance, but inevitably it happens. It’s likely that Jose Iglesias will start the season at Triple-A and that Mike Aviles and scrappy-mc-scrapster Nick Punto will share time at short.

My guess is that Aviles gets the majority of the starts at short this season, but I would not be surprised at all if Iglesias is called upon after the all-star break to sure-up the defense.
