I really don’t know how we, as baseball fans, survive the offseason. This day alone is pretty agonizing. I just want baseball, kay?
- The American League wasn’t caught sleeping this time. National League hitters had just three hits last night, and Mariano Rivera put them to bed. Cue Enter Sandman. (Rivera gets solo bow as AL beats NL)
- But if we’re talking All-Star pitching performances, none can match the 1999 All-Star Game with Pedro Martinez showing why he’s the best. (Pedro Martinez and the greatest All-Star Game moment)
- Anyone remember Mark Melancon? Good, because he was an All-Star too. He doesn’t hold grudges, though, and all that Boston stuff is over & done with. (Melancon has put Boston experience behind him)
- At this age in the majors, David Ortiz is hitting at unprecedented levels. In the end, though, Father Time will exact a toll, and Papi knows it’s coming. (Despite numbers, Ortiz knows age is catching up)
- Soreness here. Aching there. It’s been an oddly frustrating debacle with Clay Buchholz, and the Red Sox aren’t feeling very cheery about it. (Clay Buchholz Situation Starting To Get Uneasy For Red Sox)
- Will Middlebrooks is a third baseman through and through. The idea to move him across the diamond to first would only decrease his value to the Red Sox. (Don’t move Will Middlebrooks to first base)
- So, in the last 20 years, three Red Sox starters deserving of a starting nod for the All-Star game haven’t gotten it. Also, Tony LaRussa is awful. (The Least-Deserving All-Star Game Starting Pitchers)
Since I don’t feel like digging through a landslide of tweets for a good one, here’s a video of A-Gon’s greatest splashdown:
