Last week, a Koji Uehara injury scare led to Edward Mujica picking up a save in his place against the New York Yankees. I asked you, the readers, to tell me who you thought should be Koji’s primary back up going forward, and the results were interesting. Everybody was largely torn between Mujica, who had a successful stint as the closer for the Cardinals last season and garnered 39% of the vote, and the exciting – if somewhat homer-prone – setup man Junichi Tazawa, who picked up 47%. Chris Capuano, who has interestingly been used in some high-leverage situations this season (apart from the expected long relief roles), picked up 8%, and the recently returned Craig Breslow picked up 6%.
Who should Koji Uehara’s primary backup be?
This week, I want to talk about Clay Buchholz, who has gotten off to a rough start to the season. Buchholz left today’s game against Baltimore responsible for six earned runs in only 2.1 innings pitched, which brought his season ERA to a whopping 7.71, and he’s already allowed only five fewer runs in 16.1 innings this year than he did in 108.1 last season. So, the question is: how concerned are you about Clay Buchholz?
How concerned are you about Clay Buchholz so far?
Get your answers in, and I’ll have the numbers for you next week (when, hopefully, he’ll have bounced back anyways).
