GAME NOTES
Tim Wakefield is at it again. You know what they say, the seventh time’s the charm. He’ll go for win 200 again tonight against the beleaguered Oakland A’s. Wakefield’s last start was derailed by a bullpen effort led by Matt Albers, who gave up more runs than outs he recorded. Wakefield went 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs while striking out three. Gio Gonzalez gets the nod from the A’s. Despite his losing record, he’s had a solid season for Oakland. His last start was a gem against the Blue Jays in which he went eight innings, striking out nine and allowing one run. Scott Atchinson was called up from Pawtucket today to provide some relief in the bullpen. Ryan Lavarnway was sent back down. Mike Aviles gets the start in left field, and Darnell McDonald starts against the lefty today in right field.
