The team has announced that Pablo Sandoval will undergo season ending surgery on his shoulder by Dr. James Andrews. It was only said that there is a “great deal going on” with regards to the injury to his shoulder. This injury still remains very secretive and curious if he came to spring training with this, if it happened after or was he dealing with it all of last season.
I think back to John Lackey when he signed a similar deal with the Red Sox and suffered through an abysmal season and after surgery to repair an injury was able to pitch like the team expected when they signed him. Sandoval was never a great hitter to begin with, but perhaps the Red Sox could see him be the player they expected if he returns healthy. Sounds crazy, but so would saying Rick Porcello is your clear number two just a few weeks ago.
