David Ortiz has three championship rings with the Red Sox. Tom Brady has four with the Patriots.
Big Papi has one-upped Brady, however, when it comes to helping Boston’s NBA franchise lure free agents.
Ortiz met with Al Horford as part of the Celtics’ sales pitch.

Brady was unsuccessful in trying to help the Celtics land Kevin Durant. When Brady and the Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX at the end of the 2014 season, the Celtics became the Boston team that’s gone the longest without winning a championship. Ortiz and the Red Sox last won a title in 2013. The Bruins hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2011.
The Celtics last raised a banner to the rafters during the ancient times of 2008. Horford averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds when the Hawks beat the Celtics in six games in the first round of the 2016 NBA playoffs.
Now, thanks partly to Ortiz, Horford is on the Celtics’ side.
