4/12: Beckett back on the hill

Our pitching is clearly not the problem as our 1-5 has been stupendous. And that's without Buchholz or Smoltz! The O is clearly a bit concerning, but Lowrie and others haven't hit their stride yet... will they today? And will Beckett continue his Cy run?

4/11: Can we stop this skid, please?

Brad Penny wasn't supposed to return this early, but the Opening Day rainout took care of that. He was brutal in 2008 for the Dodgers but a Cy contender in 2007. Time to see if he can hold up in the AL and turn our fortunes around.

4/10: Westward Ho!

The Red Sox are now three games into a nine-gamer streak, and the next six are out west. Their next (and last) West Coast trip is May 12-17, which bodes well to get some rest as the season goes on.

Fenway Guide TRIVIA: First pitch at Fenway

Who threw out the first pitch at the first major league game ever played at Fenway, and what relation is he to the person that threw out the first pitch at Fenway on Opening Day 2009?

4/9: With a heavy heart

While Dice-K attempts to build upon his second straight MVP of the World Baseball Classic, the baseball world grieves for the death of Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart.

4/8: Lefty time

Game two of the regular season is underway, with Jon Lester on the mound. He's predicted by many to establish himself as one of, if not the, best pitchers in the league this season. Well, it all starts here, Jon, against a fellow left-handed fireballer.

4/7: …And We’re Baaaack

It's here. Game 1 of 162. Let's come out strong and kick some Ray butt!

TRIVIA: 4:06

Why is the starting time for Opening Day tomorrow specifically 4:06 PM? (And not, say, 4:00 or 4:05.)

Er… strike that, game postponed

So much for my joy at Opening Day. Although it was going to rain buckets, I was excited to head in for the game. Alas, Larry Lucchino just appeared on WEEI and said the game has been postponed until 4:05 PM ET tomorrow. Since I'm having surgery tomorrow, I won't be able to make it, but I'll be there in spirit, boys!

At long last, Opening Day is here

Finally. Opening Day is here.

On this day, every team has cause to feel optimistic -- even those that know they have no chance of making the playoffs. This is where the silver lining of every team comes into play. It's the cleanest day of baseball games across the entire season: no problems, no issues, just finally getting out in front of a crowd, playing meaningful baseball in the march for October.
