Fireside Chats #79: Where Paul asks for his outright release

Could this team be any more schizophrenic than it has been over the past few weeks? Looks like a team searching for an identity to me. Paul and I react to the two game drama in New York while giving some props to David Ortiz for his hot May. Although Paul is still skeptical if he can keep this up for any extended period of time. We search for answers with regards to the disappointing performance of the pitching staff and appreciate Mike Lowell's honesty. All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.

Fireside Chats #78: Where we’re cautiously optimistic

While I certainly hope the Red Sox can stop losing series to their two biggest divisional rivals, especially at Fenway Park, this homestand gave Red Sox fans something to be optimistic about. Over the last twenty games, there hasn't been a better offense in baseball. The Red Sox team batting average in May is over .300 and the team OPS is .900+ leading the way to 6.8 runs per game. It's the pitching that's keeping the Red Sox down. How much of that blame should fall on the shoulders of John Farrell? Of course we close with our weekly David Ortiz conversation. Is it the wrong time for him to be showing us just a little? All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.

Choose Your Own Adventure

With the Red Sox treading water just above .500 after a month and a half of the season, its too early to fully embrace the "wait 'till next year" mentality. At the same time however, you had better believe Theo Epstein and his advisors have played their own game of "choose your own adventure" that has them following the "to become sellers and restock for 2011 turn to page 41" path.

Fireside Chats #77: Where Paul (prematurely?) presses the PANIC button

Let me take you back four short days ago. After having seen his team of record be swept by the lowly Baltimore Orioles, Paul Testa (aka @ptesta9) went hunting for a panic button. Instead he found twitter: I think that can keep us busy for an hour ;) All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.

Fireside Chats #76: Where we [insert David Ortiz joke here]

The Red Sox are back to .500 having won seven of their last nine games. Let's all pay proper respect to the performances of Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz now and hope that this starts a trend that Jon Lackey and Josh Beckett can follow through on. Paul and I ask the tough questions in this episode, "when will the Red Sox and David Ortiz part ways?" and "can anyone catch the Tampa Bay Rays?" With April coming to a close, we look forward to the month of May which looks to be hold a critical stretch of games against playoff caliber teams. We'll soon find out exactly what this team is made of. All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.

Fireside Chats #75: Where we don’t need no stinkin’ collapsed lung

Really, Jacoby Ellsbury's getting looked at for a potential collapsed lung? Mike Cameron's being evaluated for appendicitis? David Ortiz and JD Drew have struck out nearly half (26) of their 54 collective at bats? Let the calls for Jeremy Hermida's playing time begin now. And all in a world where Dustin Pedroia and Jason Varitek lead the team in home runs. Us "experts" got it all figured out don't we. Paul and I look forward to a critical home stand and the vaunted Tampa Bay Rays. I may be optimistic in expecting at least one home run from Papi while the team's at Fenway Park for the next ten games, Paul...not so much. Anyone else think Papi has a chance at going yard in April? All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.

Fireside Chats #74: Where Paul grabs a bat and pinch hits for Big Papi

Well, one series down and no shortage of things to talk about. Nothing like dumping fans into the middle of September feeling games without even a few warm up throws. Our biggest take aways from the first three games, this team is going to be good this season. The endings may not have been written the way we would have wanted, but there can be no doubt that the 2010 Yankees and Red Sox are two evenly matched teams. Come along for a listen as we heap praise on the newcomers, Lackey, Scoot and Beltre while we pan the old standby, David Ortiz. All that and more on this episode of Fireside Chats.
