10/4: That’s all, folks
GAME NOTES: Clay Buchholz gets a tune-up before the regular season ends. Keep an eye on the Tigers/Twins. If both win or lose, a playoff game will have to occur Tuesday afternoon -- meaning the Sox won't know if Game 1 of the ALDS is Wednesday or Thursday. Personally, I'm hoping the Tigers pull it out. It'll get the Sox time to finalize plans, and Detroit has the better team on paper to beat New York.10/2: Dicing them up
GAME NOTES: Dice-K enters his final start before October. He's looked a new man after missing most of the season with assorted problems. Can he keep it up?
10/1: Hello, October
GAME NOTES: You could make the case Cleveland is worse than Toronto and Kansas City. Let's hope so... so we can finally win a freaking game. Jon Lester takes the mound in a big tune-up game for him.
9/30: Scrub time
GAME NOTES: Well, the Sox lost last night... but clinched the Wild Card. Whatever works, I guess. Scrub lineup tonight, check the comments for it. Please note I will be holding live chats for every playoff game the Red Sox are in.
9/28: Bowden subs in for Beckett
GAME NOTES: Josh Beckett has been scratched with mild back spasms with Michael Bowden taking his place. We looked so good going into October: a great bullpen, a good 1-4 rotation and a clicking offense. Now? Our top two pitchers are hobbled and our offense looks feast or famine. Good times.
9/26: Big money pitchers
GAME NOTES: A huge test on if Dice can be trusted ... ok, he can't ever be trusted this season, so let me modify... A huge test on if Dice can be somewhat trusted in the playoffs will come with his performance against the Yankees. If the dam breaks, it won't be pretty. On the other side, we have to deal with their big dog, CC Sabathia.
9/25: Lester in New York
GAME NOTES: Jon Lester, the probable ace in October, duels against Joba Chamberlain who is fighting for his rotation spot (versus Chad Gaudin).
