GAME NOTES: Game #2 of 18 on a nationally televised afternoon game. Warm weather is due for Boston so we could see balls flying all over the yard. Otherwise, we can’t really build up the series any more. Mike has a preview of the matchup here, I live-blogged the opener here if you need a refresher on the magical 8th inning, and Mike chimed in with a good postgame piece here. This will be Josh Beckett’s biggest test, by far, of the season. It’ll be interesting to see if the new Beckett or old Beckett shows up, especially if Josh becomes frustrated or a tad rattled on the hill. The Sox face Jeff Karstens, a pitcher they have never faced. In the past this has meant trouble, but don’t you get the feeling the offense is really starting to gel and will feed off Friday night? I mean, Coco Crisp, Jason Varitek and Alex Cora led the way for chrissakes!!! Red Sox-Yanks, watch or die.
