GAME NOTES: Julian Tavarez starts in place of Kason Gabbard, who was dealt yesterday to the Rangers as part of the Eric Gagne deal. The Sox have lost two in a row, and need to take advantage of Steve Trachsel to right the ship. We are still awaiting the Sox debut of Gagne, a former Cy Young award winner and resurgent dominant bullpen force. UPDATE Eric Gagne is wearing No. 83, despite Yahoo Sports reporting No. 36. He is wearing No. 83 as his longtime No. 38 is taken by Curt Schilling. The number, reverse of No. 38, is the second highest ever worn by a Sox player. The highest number was worn last year by first baseman J.T. Snow (No. 84) in honor of his recently deceased father, a professional football player who wore No. 84.
