Mike Lowell has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his left hand, which he injured on the first play of last night’s game. He’s not expected to miss more than the 15 days, but the injury has been known to knock people out for longer.
Jed Lowrie was called up to take Lowell’s spot and will grab the occasional spot start. Youkilis will be playing third with Sean Casey nabbing the gig at first. Nice to have bench depth.
Alex Cora is also injured as he hurt his arm during fielding practice.
