Through seven innings Felix Hernandez had been dominant, the eighth inning was so much different.
Dustin Pedroia hit a ground rule double to deep left field scoring Julio Lugo making it 2-1. Pedroia’s RBI double then ensued a Hernandez collapse.
Boston went on to score three more runs in the inning busting the game open to a 5-1 score but Jonathan Papelbon made the matchup look closer coming into a non save situation in the ninth. An RBI single by Ichiro Suzuki and a wild pitch put the game at 5-3 with Papelbon throwing more pitches then Terry Francona wanted but Boston escaped with a ground out to second to wrap up the win.
Star of the Game: Colon
Bartolo Colon faced a free swinging/non-walking team and took advantage of it out dueling Hernandez lasting 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, one run, walked one, and struck out four. Colon lasted longer than his first start (five innings), got out of some jams as Seattle was 2-6 with runners in scoring position, and kept his pitch count down ending his night with 84 pitches (59 for strikes).
