The Boston Red Sox have made some roster decisions prior to Thursday’s contest against the Minnesota Twins at Hammond Park.

There are 12 players that won’t be at major league game and a little more than half were reassigned to minor league camp.

Bryce Brentz, Alex Hassan, Anthony Ranaudo, Matt Barnes, Garin Cecchini, Henry Owens, Miguel Celestino, Noe Ramirez, Blake Swihart, Heiker Meneses, Alex Wilson and Travis Shaw were all cut, which leaves 46 players for 25 spots. Eleven of these players are non-roster invitees and 35 are on the active 40-man roster.

Brentz, Hassan, Ranaudo, Cecchini and Wilson were optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket and Barnes, Owens, Celestino, Ramirez, Swihart, Meneses and Shaw were all sent to minor league training camp to likely get even more work in before the season begins.

Brentz led Red Sox players with three home runs (tied with Mike Carp) and showed off great bat speed. Owens struggled in his second outing of the spring, but will likely see some time at the major league level in September.
