Nothing says spring training like a good ol’ fashion position battle, and the Red Sox have a good one going. Jackie Bradley and Grady Sizemore continued their respective campaigns for the centerfield job over the weekend with Sizemore playing on Saturday, and Bradley Jr playing on Sunday.
- Perhaps the biggest headline of the weekend came from off the diamond. Red Sox catching prospect John Denney was arrested Friday for driving with a suspended license. (Jonathan Denney, Boston Red Sox minor leaguer, arrested)
- Over the course of his short career, Will Middlebrooks has shown great power potential. But at the same time, the 25 year old third baseman has also displayed gaudy plate discipline. - There has been no comeback story quite like the one that John Lackey has put together. After a an atrocious 2011 campaign and a lost 2012 season, the right hander was reborn in 2013. But can he continue his success, or is he bound for regression? (Can John Lackey repeat last years success?)
- As we know from last offseason, winning isn’t done in the spring, it’s done during the year. But just because the Red Sox were shortchanged last spring doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy being highly ranked this preseason. (Red Sox No. 1 in ESPN’s Future power rankings)
- Jackie Bradley may be replacing Jacoby Ellsbury’s position- but that’s all he’s doing. While the two may post similar on-base numbers, Bradley Jr doesn’t project to be as prolific of a base stealer as his predecessor. (Bradley Jr. still learning ropes on basepaths)
