GAME NOTES
So I was wrong. I hoped that the struggling Rays offense would allow the struggling Red Sox pitching to get going on a roll, especially following Josh Beckett’s dominate start on Sunday. But, the opposite happened. The struggling Red Sox pitching staff has allowed the struggling Rays offense to get going, scoring 16 runs yesterday. Jon Lester and David Price starting tonight, I’m expecting a pitchers duel, which means it will be a slug-fest. I’m headed to the game myself, first one of the year, hoping to see a good one, or at least a Red Sox win.
PLAYER OF THE DAY
A very morbid few days in my player of the day posts, yesterday was Carl Mays and Ray Chapman; today: Ed Morris. I ended up with Morris today because it is 4/12 and he posted a 4.12 ERA in his Red Sox career. While researching him, I found he came to a rather unfortunate end. Morris died just prior spring training in 1932 when he was fatally stabbed during a going away party his friends were throwing for him. He had spent 4 years with Red Sox going 42-45 with the aforementioned 4.12 ERA.
