GAME NOTES
The Red Sox look to get a win against the Minnesota Twins on Mother’s Day as they welcome hyped prospect Jose Iglesias to the majors. Iglesias will take Marco Scutaro’s spot on the roster as Scutaro heads to the disabled list with a strained left oblique. Daisuke Matsuzaka starts for the Sox after pitching in relief for the first time in his major league career last Wednesday in a 13 inning loss to the Angels. Matsuzaka comes in with a 4.33 ERA and a 2-3 mark. The Twins counter with former Red Sox prospect, Carl Pavano. He has had a disappointing start to the season, posting a 5.84 ERA over 37 innings. Pavano was the key piece in the deal that brought Pedro Martinez to the Red Sox back in 1997 from the Montreal Expos. He’s coming off his third loss of the season, a shelling in Kansas City in which he gave up seven runs in 5 1/3 innings. Jose Iglesias will not start for the Sox today, and it will be interesting to see how much playing time Terry Francona allots for him. Either way, it must be comforting for the team to know that their shortstop of the future is in the dugout.

-The Sox are 8-5 in day games, 7-13 in night games.
-The Sox have great numbers against Pavano, with only two members of the team posting Averages below .313 against him. (Cameron and Pedroia.)
-Since 2003, Pavano has had only one season with an ERA under 4.64.
-Sox pitching has limited the third spot in opposing lineups to a .193 average. The spot Sox pitchers have had the most trouble with is 8th, with a .282 BAA
-Crawford is batting .407 in May.
