Brian Roberts and Kevin Millar combined for four RBI’s and Erik Bedard earned his 11th win of the season in the 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox (64-42).
Bedard pitched for 6 innings, giving up one homerun, two hits, two runs, five walks, and struckout six on 112 pitches (65 for strikes) to win his seventh straight decision.
The Red Sox never lead in the game as Brian Roberts homered to right field off of starter Josh Beckett to lead off the game and it spiraled down hill from there as Beckett picked up his fifth loss of the season.
Beckett pitched for 8 innings, on nine hits, five runs, two walks, struck out six, and one homerun that was given up to Roberts.
Roberts brought home the second run of the game in the third inning with his second RBI on a double to left and Millar singled home two runs giving the Orioles an early 4-0 lead.
The only bright spot in the game for Red Sox fans was the power surge that David Ortiz had as he homered twice bringing home all three runs for Boston in the game.
Ortiz first homered in the third bringing home Dustin Pedroia and solo-homered in the eighth, but that was all the Boston offense had as no one else in the lineup had a hit except for Coco Crisp who singled in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Ortiz was 3-4 in the game with the two homeruns and a single raising his average to .321 for the season and now has 18 homeruns on the season.
Jamie Walker finished out the ninth getting the last two outs of the inning earning his fourth save of the season.
At least Boston acquired Eric Gagne today.
