It’s time again for a new poll. This one is going to be open-ended as we are curious who you think should be the Fire Brand of the Year for the 2013 season. Handed out every year to represent the blog the forthcoming year, the Fire Brander is a referendum on who was one of the more vital cogs to the 2012 team. Mind, that doesn’t mean most valuable — we aren’t interested with glitzy statistics. Here’s the explanation:
“The Fire Brand of the American League is a Red Sox player who exhibits character under pressure, an unassuming man who leaves the spotlight for other people but makes his indelible mark on the past season’s Boston Red Sox. A piece most people take for granted, but whom we would have missed dearly.”
I’ve left out some certain people, as I don’t think they represent what the award’s all about. It doesn’t mean they won’t win in the writer voting round, but we’re curious who you guys like of the options.
Your options are:
- Cody Ross
- Mike Aviles
- Jarrod Saltalamacchia
- Felix Doubront
- Scott Atchinson
- Franklin Morales
The previous poll asked what type of starting pitcher the Red Sox should acquire. Well, Boston voted in the poll themselves yesterday by grabbing Ryan Dempster.
Incidentally, Fire Branders seemed to agree with the trade, as we all felt the team was better off signing a free-agent starter of Dempster’s caliber. There was a lot of support (39% in aggregate) for making a trade, however.
How should Red Sox address adding another SP?
- Sign another FA SP (Dempster, McCarthy, etc.) (26%, 63 Votes)
- Trade Saltalamacchia/Lavarnway and a SP prospect (21%, 52 Votes)
- Sign Anibal Sanchez (21%, 50 Votes)
- Trade Jacoby Ellsbury for the SP (18%, 43 Votes)
- Not at all – stay internal (Morales?) (8%, 19 Votes)
- Sign Zack Greinke (6%, 16 Votes)
