Derek Lowe is one pitcher Boston fans will never forget. After last night’s performance on the mound, Josh Beckett will also be in that category sooner rather than later.
Beckett pitched his third career shutout – first in a Red Sox uniform – to blank the Atlanta Braves and Lowe, 3-0.
Beckett (8-3) only allowed five hits, all singles, no walks and seven strikeouts.
Lowe (7-5) suffered the loss pitching 6 1/3 innings pitched, three runs (all earned), one walk and two strikeouts.
Nick Green put Boston on the board in the fifth inning with a double to score Jason Varitek. Varitek had two hits, both doubles, off of his former teammate Lowe.
Kevin Youkilis had an RBI single and Dustin Pedroia grounded out to plate a runner.
Star of the Game – Beckett
Honestly, who else would it be after that outing.
Next Game – 6/21 vs. Atlanta Braves – Jair Jurrjens/Tim Wakefield
Wakefield can improve to 10-3 on the season with a win against the Braves.
