Recommended Reading: Amalie Benjamin’s Chat Wrap

A little short on time this weekend, I'll throw up a couple quickposts with content from around the web to keep you going! Starting off, check out the chat wrap on the Boston Globe's website with Amalie Benjamin (link after the jump). Amalie might not have the name recognition of Nick Cafardo yet, but I always enjoy her insight and opinions on the team. She touches on many topics including Lars Anderson, Rocco Baldelli, Mark Kotsay, Jason Varitek, long-term deals for Papelbon, Youkilis, and Lester, and of course, Manny Ramirez. Would love to hear some of your feedback on her chat, I'll post back this afternoon!

Ryne’s Ramblings: Special Saturday Edition

Check out Ryne's Ramblings, a collection of random thoughts put together while killing time before killing deer. From Jim Rice to Jennifer Aniston, get the 411 on current events in the Red Sox Nation. And I promise, I even kept the political propaganda to a minimum this time!

Outside the Top 50: Building a team of free agents

The premise of the article is this: historically, as a small market team, its too risky to try to build a team around the top available free agents. If you give $20 million a year over six years to a player who is a bust, you're ship is sunk. So my thought was this: what is the best team money could buy using only free agents who are outside the top 50 list that we created here on Fire Brand? Call it the "leftovers game," and show us your picks! Bonus points if you figure in approximate payroll of the team.

Crisp traded to KC for reliever

Boston sacrificed uber-prospect Andy Marte, acquired a few months earlier from the Atlanta Braves, but in return they received a 26 year old center fielder who averaged 15 home runs and hit a .298 clip the past two seasons as a starter. Things looked bright for the team and player.

Now, the Boston Red Sox have traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez.

Wednesday Wrap-up: Red Sox news from all over

Three big stories headline the local papers today in Red Sox Nation. The Providence Journal is reporting that David Ortiz would like to see the Sox add a 30 HR bat, and some bullpen help. The Boston Globe's Mazz gives us his insight on the front office philosophy of the organization as it pertains to pitching this offseason. Finally, the Boston Herald shows proof of the economic state of the country, reporting that ticket prices in Fort Myers and Boston this year will freeze and be the same as 2008.

No Holliday for Sox; Slugger heads to A’s

According to SI.com, the Colorado Rockies have traded their All-Star outfielder, Matt Holliday, to the Oakland A's. It is not known at this time who Colorado will receive in the trade.

Morning Cup ‘o Info: Important things to know

The hot stove is getting hotter. Reports from the Boston Globe indicate that CC Sabathia's agent noted his client is not on Boston agenda this offseason, probably worth nothing in case you had visions of the big ace opening the 2009 season for the Sox. Also within the same report is news that Jarrod Saltalamacchia is going to begin playing winter ball, we'll keep an eye on his progress here at Fire Brand.
