Rotoworld.com:
Red Sox acquired RHP Brad Baker from the Braves to complete the Franklin Nunez trade. Boston sent Nunez, another right-handed reliever, to Atlanta in spring training. Baker rejoins the organization that made him a 1999 first-round pick. He had a 2.40 ERA in 15 innings for Triple-A Richmond. It’s possible that the Red Sox will take a look at him as a 12th pitcher at some point. He’ll be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket for now.
Baker had gone to the Padres in 2002 along with Dan Giese in exchange for Alan Embree and Andy Shibilo. He won Pitcher of the Year along with Tim Stauffer in the Padres’ organization in 2004, and was a rising star until he got sidetracked. The lefty will probably fill the void left by Mark Malaska in terms of position in the organization and promise.
