David Ortiz failed to come through with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning popping out to Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees won 4-3 decreasing the division lead to 4 1/2 games.
Mariano Rivera earned his 28th save of the season closing the door in the ninth inning.
Jeter’s three-run homerun with two outs in the top of the eighth inning off of Curt Schilling was the difference for the Yankees in the win.
