David Ortiz’s cast has been removed from his left wrist today, a great sign because that means Ortiz is pain free. He now has a forearm splint that will allow him to start doing range-of-motion exercises. No timetable has been set for his return, but he has experienced zero setbacks so far.
That can’t be said about Curt Schilling, who apparently will now take a few days off after a couple frustrating bullpen stints. Since the Red Sox have starting pitching depth out the wazoo, the setback isn’t much of a concern for now. If Schill comes back in early September and carries this team to another World Series, it’ll all have been worth it.
