New venue, same drama. The rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will always be eventful.
Jason Bay hit a two-run homer off the left field foul pole — his sixth of the season — in the seventh inning to give Boston a seemingly comfortable lead, 6-3.
But of course, things got interesting in the ninth inning.
After Mark Teixeira homered against Ramon Ramirez, his first run given up all season, cutting the Red Sox lead to 6-4, Jonathan Papelbon had to complete a 5-out save.
Papelbon got through the eighth inning but ran into some trouble in the ninth. He eventually fought through a bases loaded jam striking out Robinson Cano for the final out.
Paps recorded his seventh save of the season and the win pushes Boston to a 4-0 start against the Yankees this season.
Mike Lowell notched his sixth home run in the second inning off of New York starter Phil Hughes. Lowell also had an RBI single in the third.

Star of the Game – David Ortiz/Jon Lester

Maybe, just maybe, Papi is going to finally turn it around. Ortiz showed BoSox fans a glimpse of that with a 2-for-3 night with two doubles, one RBI and two walks.
Lester has certainly turned it around earning his second win of the season (2-2).
He pitched seven innings, giving up six hits, three runs (all off homers — Johnny Damon, two-run shot, and Teixeira, solo blast) two walks and 10 strikeouts.
Next Game – Tue. 5/05 vs. New York Yankees – Josh Beckett/Joba Chamberlain
Josh Beckett will try to make it 5-0 against the Yankees but most importantly turn the corner after two horrible starts against New York on 4/25 and Tampa Bay on 4/30. Beckett gave up a total of 15 earned runs in the two starts.
