TAM 6, BOS 2: Slugged

If Evan Longoria could play a full season against Boston's pitching staff who knows what his season totals would be.

On Base Percentage is good!

The Red Sox lead the league in OBP at .370. Granted, Fenway is beneficial to hitters, but this team would get on base a lot wherever they played. Maybe not this much, but a lot, comparatively. The most asked question for the offense coming in was, "Where is the power going to come from?"

The Boston Red Sox from a fantasy perspective

I have been asked to serve as the Red Sox's team expert from now through spring training for HEATER magazine. This will help you figure out how the Red Sox look from a fantasy baseball perspective.

Read on to view the first week's predictions such as projecting Julio Lugo to play half the time (getting roughly 300 at-bats, which is a lot for a bench player) and who would replace Jonathan Papelbon at closer should Paps get hurt.

Outside the Top 50: Building a team of free agents

The premise of the article is this: historically, as a small market team, its too risky to try to build a team around the top available free agents. If you give $20 million a year over six years to a player who is a bust, you're ship is sunk. So my thought was this: what is the best team money could buy using only free agents who are outside the top 50 list that we created here on Fire Brand? Call it the "leftovers game," and show us your picks! Bonus points if you figure in approximate payroll of the team.

Morning Cup ‘o Info: Important things to know

The hot stove is getting hotter. Reports from the Boston Globe indicate that CC Sabathia's agent noted his client is not on Boston agenda this offseason, probably worth nothing in case you had visions of the big ace opening the 2009 season for the Sox. Also within the same report is news that Jarrod Saltalamacchia is going to begin playing winter ball, we'll keep an eye on his progress here at Fire Brand.

How they voted: The 2008 Boston Red Sox

Today is election day for one of the most important and polarizing elections in the history of our great country. I hope everyone takes time out of their day to fufill their most important responsibility as an American citizen. Although all votes are confidential, we have the scoop on our 2008 Boston Red Sox! Check the names below to see who, and why, the local nine cast their ballot,

Phillies Fix My Car

For Philadelphia Phillies fans, it was the best of times, unless you are Ted Passon, who's "best of times" turned into a "worst of times" at the flip of a switch, or in this case...car.

"Hey Philly, remember when we just won the world series for the first time in 28 years? That was great! Then my car got flipped over and that wasn't great."

Don’t call it Weathergate

There are so many reasons to love the sport of baseball. One of the top reasons for this writer is that even after 100 years of playing the nation's pastime, there is still a good chance that every year you'll see something that has never happened before. The 2008 World Series is a great example of that; not because of the Rays turnaround, or the Phillies dominance thus far, but because of the weather.

First and foremost, before this spreads any worse, please refrain from the annoying habit of adding the word "gate" to anything controversial. I would rather exchange text messages with Kwame Kilpatrick then look back 20 years from now and hear about the Weathergate World Series.
